Receiving the Word

Sensitizing to Divine Revelation

Page 3

Again, we receive more of divine revelation as we are prepared to do so. All the acts of Christian devotion are proven means to sensitive the mind to reception of divine revelation and a sense of holy Presence. And central to these are pubic acts of devotion within the joined sharing and worship of persons in the faith communion, among them the sacraments.

Last, be cautious of anyone who claims to discern the mind and heart of Spirit but evidences a resistance to joining in the accountability of a covenant community of faith. After all, who spearheads cults: spiritual-religious renegades.

This cautiousness includes the many who claim a personal - meaning "individualistic" - spirituality apart from organized religion. Oddly, spirituality has never been so separated, except in our overly-individualistic times. Divine Word and faith community go together. Divine revelation, while manifesting to persons individually, has done so throughout history within a faith body of like devotees, even if not agreeing on all matters.
